I will be posting gospel prayers that I have written, hoping they will be helpful to people. These come out of my own prayer and my own life. Enjoy

Praying on the Road to Emmaus

During the Easter season, it's delightful to pray the Easter gospel stories. Try this one:
  • Read Luke 24:13-35
  • Have you experienced a tragedy? When? How did you feel at the moment? Who helped you to understand what had happened? How do you see it differently years later? What did God do with your memory? How was your memory transformed? How was it an experience of reconciliation for you?
  • Pray using your imagination: You are walking, running actually, from your problems, conversing with someone, ...your spouse or your friend.....A stranger begins to walk with you who listens to your problem.....You spill it all out. ....The stranger asks you questions that get to the heart of it....You begin to converse about God and about how God has acted in your lives and in the life of the stranger. You arrive home, inviting the stranger to stay. The stranger breaks bread and you recognize him as Jesus.
  • Write about your conversation and the whole experience, especially about what feels changed in you.
  • Share this experience, break bread, with a friend.
